I was honoured to be invited as a guest author for the Stepping Into Stories Festival in Herne Hill. I spoke to an assembly of year 9 students and was amazed by the energy, the enthusiasm and ideas of this brilliant bunch of children! I got them writing about what the phrase "How Far We've Come" meant to them and gave them a chance to step into the shoes of one of the characters from my novel to write about their true dreams and aspirations.
I was profoundly touched to read that even those who were given the character of the evil overseer, O'Leary, managed to see the humanity in him and understand that there is nuance in everyone; we are not one dimensional beings - all of us are capable of making decisions that are right or wrong and all of us have agency and choice in our actions. It was such an honour to be part of the line up of such a stellar group of writers and artists. Thanks for having me!!
